Embedded electronics - the heart of the evolving future car
The demand for software in automotive applications keeps growing exponentially, from the monitoringfor monitoring batteries in electric vehicles to the management of proliferating sensors and cameras for autonomous driving. Systems requiring a huge amount of data and that are integrated on the same multicore processor. Tasks for which at one time were sufficient to 8-16 bit microcontrollers and that today require 32-bit units.
Integrated electronic systems and their growing demand are changing the face not only of automotive but also of industry in general, where companies supplying components are evolving exclusively into supplier of electronics.
Opportunities out there exist for sure (!), but also significant risks, if the strategic plans of OEMs were misunderstood or technological approach miscalculated.
That’s the idea of Steve Rogerson that in the report "Embedded electronics - the heart of the evolving future car" analyzes this sector, answering technical questions and highlighting strategies and opportunities for both car-makers and suppliers.

From the Battery Show to the Designing with Freescale Seminar
The month of September brought us to Detroit, where bylogix visited the The Battery Show and took part in the seminary DwF - Designing with Freescale.
The Battery Show (15-17/9) welcomed the world of energy storage and the latest technological solutions in terms of battery solutions for electric & hybrid vehicles, utility & renewable energy support, portable electronics, medical technology, military and telecommunications. The event was held in parallel to the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo, premier showcase for the technology and innovation related to electric and hybrid vehicles.
During the seminar "Designing with Freescale" (23-24/9), the multinational of products for the electronics proposed technical trainings and the latest automotive solutions for ADAS systems, body electronics, chassis and safety, infotainment, control panels, powertrain and hybrid systems.Among the DwF exhibitors there was also Micron Technology who created the memories used by our Interactive Communication Unit (ICU), the heart of the Icona Vulcano’s explosive dashboard.

The Bluecar also runs in Indianapolis!
Bolloré’s Bluecar exceeds French borders and arrives in Indianapolis to be the protagonist of America’s largest electric car-sharing: 50 vehicles x 25 charging stations, figures that will increase.
A success for bylogix, too, that has made the electric and electronic architecture, the innovative digital IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) and the body computer, taking care, at the same time, of the choice and supply of key components.

Connected cars and infotainment : a revolution expected for 2020
According to a research by Business Insider Intelligence by 2020, 75% of vehicles on the road will have hardware and software to connect to the network, with resulting benefits for the market of the services provided through the Internet. Speaking of which, have also a look at our “ICU” in the “Projects” session.
The services that can be offered by connected cars - and accessible through dashboards that are becoming digital platforms every day more - go from safety, to driving-assistance, up to the infotainment. And this last sector, made of streaming music and video and of social networks, will be worth, according to the estimates, 13 billion dollars by 2020.
